About the Company

City Direct is an award winning private public transport company that was established in 1999. This is our 15th year operating a public transport network in Galway City. We provide scheduled bus services on the west side of Galway city. The areas we service include Knocknacarra, Rahoon, Shantalla, Cappagh, Ballymoneen, Westside and the City Centre. We currently operate 3 routes within Galway City under licence from the National Transport Authority (NTA).

These routes include:

  • 411 Cappagh Road (Knocknacarra) to Eyre Square. See timetable here.
  • 412 Western Distributor Road (Knocknacarra) to Eyre Square. See timetable here.
  • 414 Barna to Eyre Square. See timetable here.

We currently have two dedicated bus shelters in Eyre Square and currently have a 15 minute frequency departing from there. City Direct does not receive any state funding or subsidies on any of our routes.

Buses with on board defibrillators

Our office is currently based on Rahoon Road in Galway City, where we have a depot and garage for our vehicles. We have a total of 18 vehicles in our fleet at the moment. All of our vehicles are installed with on-board defibrillators, to ensure a safer environment for our passengers and provide them with the best possible service. We have 26 staff members here at City Direct, 18 of which are drivers. We have become the first bus operator in the country to install on-board defibrillators and to have our drivers trained to respond to victims of cardiac arrest, stroke, choking and heart attack.

Our bus network has been expanding as a result of positive factors including dedicated bus lanes, service reliability, increased accessibility, the need to minimise the carbon footprint of the fleet to tackle air quality, a multimedia approach to travel information and steady growth in the number of passengers travelling on our mode of transport.

We are also the service provider of the Park & Ride at NUIG, read more here, and the operator of the University Hospitals Staff Shuttle Bus.
